To my old cat, sleeping
You sleep more now and deeper, kitty,
friend I’ve known longer than most
your delicate nose and chin are now white
below your sweet, silken whiskers.
You talk more now, to me and to yourself,
roaming around in the dark quiet house
maybe to tell the unguarded world
you’re yet keeping watch over our rest.
You still excel in quality control
rating each of the warm window spots
moving as the day swings around the house
saving each drop of heat for the night
In your heart, and in mine, is still
the crazy kitten I fell in love with.

I feel like I know your cat… Wonderful poem. Wonderful cat.
love it and enjoyed the talking I would hear. Besides the happy purring.
