In case you were wondering about the up and comings

Some of them have already arrived. Some have arrived and retired. The really good ones are still out in the trenches thinking up good stuff!

But in a CNN article “40 under 40” we meet Max Levchin who among other feats in his young life:

Helped created the Gausbeck-Levchin fraud test, the alphanumeric jumble you’re asked to type before making a transaction online.

Hey you knew somebody created that right? Now you know one of those who were responsible! He’s the one who makes me say “type these letters to prove that you’re a human being…”

Also in the mix is Biz Stone and Evan Williams. You may connect them as co-founders of Twitter, but how do you feel about the nugget that Evan Williams was a founder of Blogger before that? Keep those ideas coming Evan – knew you way back when and have the blogger tshirt to prove it!

I read somewhere that “captcha” not only identifies human from computer, but is being used in digitizing non-machine readable text in old books. Words the computer can’t decypher are put into the cycle for use as “type this” codes. When you “read” and type a word you provide the human reader for the process of making literature available in a digital format!
