Size matters

“I want to be very intimate and human. To paint a small picture is to place yourself outside your experience, to look upon an experience as with a reducing glass. However, when you paint the larger picture, you are in it.” Mark Rothko

So when I start making something I generally start with a pile of pretty small pieces and start making bigger or different pieces. I have a pretty good idea of what size it’s going to end up being. I don’t start out thinking it’s going to be 8″ x 10″ and have it end up wall size. There may be some difference but not much. Part of that is that the process is labor intensive. I’m not going to make 3000 extra of my building block pieces and then wonder what to do with 2750 of them so what the heck make it that much bigger. There are some who start out making pieces and go until they run out of fabric or desire (ahem – you know who you are…. ;-D) Myself, my norm is to figure it out before I start.

Having said all that, I cut out and dug out a lot of blue squares. Some grey ones. Last night. Pile of them on a board on the ironing board. I’m not sure they’re the right size to start with but I’m going to try a few of them and see how it goes.

That all sounds very mysterious. I love mysteries. My favorite colors. Have fun. Mom
