Ten Years On: Done and Done

Finished sewing on the label tonight so it’s as finished as it can be. It was a long road for this quilt, but the real reason it was so long was just that a few other quilts happened along the way so this quilt sat quietly waiting. This was the quilt that went up on my new design wall in June 2010 when it seemed like quilts weren’t happening for me anymore. Putting it up there helped get everything else going and there wasn’t any doubt that this would actually get finished too. So, all good.

These are the photos I took late last night after finally finishing the binding too. Eventually I will set up the lights and all and take “real official photos.”

Thank you for moving forward. We need you and your quilts. Lots of them still stirring in your mind. Sometime we need a collage of something of your past and present quilts. Something to show your many phases of quilting. Love Mom

Quilts just take as long as they take. Some draw us in so insistantly that they consume every available moment until they are done. Others say, “wait, you need to think some more,” and “I can wait, I’ll be here when you find your way back to me,” or they have unforseen complications that require time to resolve. The time away can offer a new inspiration, a new purpose, time to develop the skill needed, or the patience required to resume with new energy,

When I moved 10 years ago I got rid of all the unfinished projects I didn’t love; some of the ones I kept are now done, others still waiting. Some have progressed, but not to completion. The quilt John and I are methodically marking, a bit each evening, has blocks (including one you made for me) dated 1991. I waited years for the time when I would be ready to hand quilt it myself, but I want the quilt finished more than I want to spend the hours doing it, so soon it will go the the ladies’ group who hand quilted your Rose quilt. I wish I lived close enough to go and quilt some with them as I did on that one.

Today I bought some fabric for a new project I want to begin….
